Applications for Admission

If you are auditioning to be a Music Major in the School of Music there is a separate application for the School of Music that must be completed in addition to your Northern Arizona University application.

Selecting an Audition Date

It is important to know that studio professors might not be available for every School of Music audition date. Once you have decided on an audition date, contact Dr. Masserini to ensure he will be available that day. If you are unable to audition on one of the dates listed, a private audition can be arranged. Where the travel distance to an audition might be an issue, recorded auditions can be accepted.

Material to Prepare for an Entrance Audition

Scales

Major Scales two and/or three octaves are required. Minor scales (any form) are not required, but might be asked if the student has prepared them.

Repertoire

Two contrasting movements from the standard clarinet repertoire or two contrasting etudes from a standard clarinet etude book. “Contrasting” simply means one of the movements/etudes should demonstrate technical proficiency (usually fast) and the other should demonstrate a lyrical (usually slow) style.
